Q&A

Is it okay to send money home from abroad through crypto?

Last reviewed: 15 October 2026

Short answer

No. Crypto transactions are not permitted in Bangladesh, and informal remittance channels risk breaking the law and being defrauded. Use banks or licensed money-transfer services.

Full answer

If you send crypto and someone at home sells it for taka, the transfer becomes informal, much like hundi. That means:

  • Crypto transactions are not permitted under Bangladesh Bank's instructions.
  • The recipient's bank or mobile account may be frozen.
  • If the middleman disappears with the money, there is no remedy.
  • Remittances through legal channels qualify for government incentives, which you lose.

Use banks or licensed money-transfer services to send money to your family. More: the risks of crypto in Bangladesh.
