Q&A

Why are informal USDT and bitcoin prices higher than the international price?

Last reviewed: 15 October 2026

Short answer

With no lawful way to trade crypto, informal sellers charge a premium for risk and demand. That premium is itself a sign of risk.

Full answer

The prices on our price page are international market averages converted to taka. Prices quoted informally can be higher for several reasons:

  • The price of risk: sellers build the risk of frozen accounts or legal trouble into the price.
  • Dollar shortages: the gap between the banking-channel dollar rate and the open-market rate also shows up in USDT prices.
  • Middlemen's margins.

Be extra careful when a rate looks unusually good; scammers often lure people with attractive rates. See P2P fraud.
