Q&A

Is Pi Network real? Can you earn by "mining" on your phone?

Last reviewed: 15 October 2026

Short answer

Tapping a button daily in the Pi Network app is called "mining", but it is not real mining like Bitcoin's. Its token has traded on some foreign exchanges since 2025; the price is volatile, and crypto transactions are not permitted in Bangladesh.

Full answer

What Pi Network is: a mobile-app project launched in 2019, in which users collect PI tokens by opening the app and tapping a button each day. Its "open network" launched in February 2025 and PI began trading on some international exchanges. The price swung sharply in the days after launch.

It is not real mining: Bitcoin mining spends hardware and electricity to secure the network. Tapping a button in the Pi app does no such work; it is essentially a way of distributing tokens. See how mining works.

The risks in Bangladesh:

  • Crypto transactions are not permitted, so selling PI for taka carries the same legal risk.
  • "Buying/selling PI" fraud in Facebook groups is very common: people take the money and vanish, or ask for your wallet "passphrase". Never share your Pi wallet passphrase; see seed phrase safety.
  • Beware of fake sites asking for photos of your national ID in the name of KYC.
